Assessing Cabinet Damage

Old radio always have some cabinet damage. This radio most has ring stains on the top with some black paint in one area. The speaker area also has some damage. There is one deep ding that is about 3/8" in diameter. I have some Walnut veneer that I can cut to fit that matches very well. Another area on the speaker grill is some veneer cracking and lifting. Probably inject some glue and clamp with a silicon sheet so it won't stick.

Started Alignment

Started aligning the RF and IF stages. All good and I will do a final alignment when I get the sad 7B tube replaced.

Components Installed

Got all the components installed! Was able to tune in a couple of stations but did run into a problem. One of the two 7B7 tubes I replaced had an intermittent short inside the glass envelop. First time I have ever seen this. The plate pin would short to the overall shield pin. This would completely ground the B+. Put in the old tube which is weak but worked. I sent an email to Tube Depot to ask for a replacement, we'll see how they respond. Regardless, the tube will have to be replaced.

New resistors and newly stuffed capacitors

Good news! Tube Depot has a 90 day warranty and sent me a shipping label so I'll get it in the mail. When they receive it, they will send me a replacement.

Power Cord / Capacitor Testing

Finally found a period correct power cord strain relief, So I decided to use fabric covered wire and a period correct plug.

Testing capacitors. Hard to see but there is a capacitor at the end of those test leads. This capacitor tester is a Heathkit I built back in the 60's when I was a teenager.
